I received an invitation to Bankee’s Toy Trade Fair last September 5. Since the venue was near and I wanted to see if there’s any new toy we might want to buy our kids, I went as soon as I logged off from work.

I didn’t bring any of my boys like I did the last time because I wanted to have more time inspecting the toys and to take notes on what would be interesting buys this Christmas season.

unnamed (1)I don’t know about you but I like seeing a child’s face light up when he opens a gift containing a toy he likes. It would be such great joy to be able to give nice gifts to all the kids we love, ours included, this Christmas season.  That’s been a prayer goal for some time now.

At home at the toy store

We’re frequent visitors of the toy stores nearby. We don’t buy all the time but we take our kids to look at the toys and keep ourselves tuned in to what interests them.

Pablo had been a Transformers fan for years, in fact, it was only this year that he expressed interest in other toys like Godzilla, which is what he asked for his birthday this year.

Lukas, on the other hand, seems drawn to the architecture of the houses of the Sylvanian Families but on our most recent visit, he rolled around the toy store in one of the scooters and asked to bring it home.

We haven’t bought the scooter because we’re still trying to decide whether scooters are better to buy than bikes, or if we should just buy them the puppy they’ve been asking for.

Judah is still into toys he can tinker.

He likes toys that have sounds but we’re still pretty careful in letting him handle the toys in case he decides to throw them just to see what would happen or take them apart when we’re not looking.

Old & New

We’re pretty familiar with many of the toys distributed by Bankee. I recognized some and was delighted to see new ones, too.

Leap Frog’s got some new cool products coming  and well, being the girl that I am, my attention went to the Ice Cream Maker in the middle of the room.

photo 5 (6)I went over to the aisle where the Gundam toys were displayed because I remember my eldest being curious about it. I was told that it might be too hard for younger kids and that it’s more ideal for 12 year olds or so, and looking through the pieces in the boxes, I sort of agreed. It looked hard to build.

I got a small one in my gift pack and I had second thoughts about giving it to our 9-year old, so I kept it aside that night, but decided to ask the babysitter the next morning to hand it over to him when he wakes up.

Jay and I were leaving for the Homeschooling Conference and will be gone the whole day, but I figured he’d ask our babysitter’s help if he can’t do it.

photoApparently, he was able to build it by himself and told me, “it wasn’t what I was asking for but thanks mom”.

And with that, we’re now considering getting him one of the bigger ones but it’s something Jay and I will have to discuss first.

Toy review series

There were a lot of great toys for both girls and boys of all ages at the trade fair like this Doc McStuffins doctor’s bag set. They have a diary set, too!

I think that one post about these toys won’t be enough so expect me to blog about the really good ones I saw at the Toy Trade Fair in the following months. Some of the toys will cost you a fortune but they won’t be a waste if they’re the right ones for your children.

I’ll leave you with this thought.  A friend of mine, a fellow mommy and home schooler, once said to me, “If you will buy your kids gifts, give them toys. They love toys. You can always buy them books and other educational materials throughout the year, and friends will give you that. Give them something that will make them truly happy.”

What about you? What Christmas gifts do you plan to give your children this year?

(Note: Although I have been given a special invitation to the trade fair, the opinion expressed here are my own and are in no way influenced by Bankee staff and organisers.)

I am excited na dumating sa time na naghahanap na ng toys ang baby ko. At 6 months she’s okay na with Sophe and her teether ring eh.

I think I would have gone on a crazy shopping spree for Jacob if I was there. He loves Peppa Pig and I saw a photo of some toys on my feed. He’d love that!

My son loves anything and everything with wheels. Or anything round that he can turn into a steering wheel! He’s obsessed. Lately he’s been spending time with his books, too. We’re planning to get him a toy car for Christmas, and I’m already on the hunt for some classic children’s books. PS I love the Sylvanian Family toys, but they’re expensive, more of collectible siya than actual toys to play with.

    1. May De Jesus-Palacpac Avatar

Yes they’re a bit pricey and I agree, they make a good collectible but if I buy it…heehee..I’m definitely playing with it.

My son also asks for a scooter but I thinks it’s too risky to have one, I told him to just enjoy his bike. My son loves Gundam, I showed him your photos and he asked me if we can go there tomorrow, Lol! Nice post I love toys kasi, kasi matanda nako, I still play with my kids hehehe

I love Bankee’s toys!! For sure my daughter will love their toys as well.

  9. Paulline @ milastolemyheart Avatar

I wonder how it will be for us. Right now Mila prefers to play with books and rarely plays with her toys. Maybe when she is a little older, we’ll both enjoy shopping for toys. The ones she has now are all gifts.

    1. May De Jesus-Palacpac Avatar

Oh that’s okay mommy Paulline! Younger children are known to enjoy playing with everything they’re interested in or curious about….except toys, haha. If Mila is a natural reader, let her. She’s doing just fine. :)

My kids are toys lovers. From pricey, collectibles and puzzles. Some of their toys di pa nabukasan sa box at nagagamit. Lalo na yung Lego toys collection nila. My eldest child love to collect Marvel comics collectibles. Same with my husband which is a Star Trek collector. They even order abroad just to collect this toys. Ako ang nag kakaproblema kung saan ko ilalagay lahat. Parang house of toys ang bahay namin. So when kids come (younger than my sons) ayaw na umuwi.

    1. May De Jesus-Palacpac Avatar

Oh but if they’re collectibles, those Star Trek toys and Marvel toys will be worth a lot someday. :) tiisin na lang ang kalat, haha.

It looks very interesting. I avoid those places because I try to encourage my son to read more and do other creative things.

    1. May De Jesus-Palacpac Avatar

Thanks for that input Kenny, I get what you mean. We home school all our kids and we try our best to encourage them to create and be imaginative too. :)

My son loves Doc McStuffins! But since he turned 3, we limit giving him toys. We prefer books for him as he loves them more :)

    1. May De Jesus-Palacpac Avatar

That’s great then. Our kids still ask for toys, so we deliberately go to the bookstores sometimes and ask them to pick the books they want for our read-alouds and for their independent reading time.

Aw! Missed this! :( my two little girls would have love this! They just love toys, more toys, and toys! They can’t seem to have enough. Lol! But surely, there will be more of this event to come. Looking forward to that one! :)

    1. May De Jesus-Palacpac Avatar

Yes your two girls would’ve loved all the girl toys they had there. Are they fans of Frozen too? They had that there.:)

  14. Rei San Avatar

That ice-cream machine looks nice. I want one for Christmas :)

    1. May De Jesus-Palacpac Avatar

I tasted the Ice Cream! It was yummy, heehee. The nice thing about it is that they told me all I need was put ice cubes in, I don’t need to crush it first. :D

  15. Maan Avatar

Cool toy choices! I think you made a good decision to leave your boys behind; otherwise, I think they’d be bugging you to buy so many toys haha. I’d be totally drooling if they carried wooden toys, too!

    1. May De Jesus-Palacpac Avatar

Haha they definitely will But we do have a rule here. They can tell us what they like but it doesn’t always mean that we’ll buy them right away, or at all. So no whining. We don’t have a toys budget, but we do stick to scheduling when the toys can be bought. :)

      1. Maan Avatar

Nice! I’ll take note of that! My toddler doesn’t throw tantrums, but it’s nice to prepare a concrete rule. :D

  16. Jess Avatar

Hi! I went to the tradeshow too! Oh, I totally agree that kids love to receive toys as gifts! I tend to splurge on toys but I justify it by saying that kids grow up fast! I’d rather treasure this moment i get to buy dolls for my daughter and ready myself for that day she’ll ask for lipsticks or shoes instead!:D

    1. May De Jesus-Palacpac Avatar

I knowwww, right? They do tend to grow up too fast! ;)

My girl has no favorite yet, as she has global developmental delay. I just give her anything and she would hold and just drop it…

    1. May De Jesus-Palacpac Avatar

I’ll have to read up on that to understand it more. Thanks for dropping in Mariqia. :)

Love that little piano! Building toys are great too and very educational, even my daughter loves Lego!

    1. May De Jesus-Palacpac Avatar

Yeah, Lego is the fun-nest educational toy ever, don’t you think? I used to love them too and would visit our neighbor often because she had a set. :)

  19. ceemee Avatar

Toys are wonderful for kids, especially for their imagination. If I were to choose, I would go for building toys. But, they will be the ones who will play with them, not me, haha!

    1. May De Jesus-Palacpac Avatar

Our boys looove building toys. They spend most of their playtime building imaginary worlds and robots with their lego set. :)

  20. Shiella Avatar

My daughter’s favorite toys are dolls. Nowadays, she’s glued to loombands. while my son’s favorite toy are cars – no ordinary cars but Lightning McQueen cars. The latest toy we bought are mega blocks and both like it too!
I haven’t thought of what to gift this Christmas yet.
If you buy toys for your kids, do you set a budget? How much if its not much to ask?

    1. May De Jesus-Palacpac Avatar

Hi Shiella! What we do since we visit the toy stores often throughout the year, is to take note of the toys that our kids like and check out their prices. We weigh the reasonability of the prices, the reason they want that toy, the estimated length of time they’ll be interested in it and so forth, but we take careful consideration of the ones that they’re really “dying to have”. Then we save up for the toys we agree on. :) No particular budget, we’re willing to save up and shell out as long as hubby and I agreed on it.
