Pablo’s been asking for soccer for years. Four years, to be exact.

This home school year, the Lord finally allowed us to fulfill our promise to our son.

We took him to his first soccer class at ASCOM Soccer Field last Tuesday afternoon. The kids in his class were already so good at it! My eyes almost popped out my head when the goalie three years Pablo’s junior jumped so high and hit the ball with his forehead.

And Pablo…well, he obviously didn’t understand the rules of the game yet and he looked like he didn’t know what he was doing half of the time. From a distance, we watched him do the drills and try to keep up with the other kids.

I felt so proud of him because he didn’t give up even though the rain poured as they played. I’m sure he realizes he needs to work hard, practice a lot and listen well to be able to learn the rules of the sport and catch up to the other boys.

We’re buying him his own ball and Jay asked the coach for pointers so he can help him practice. I’ve been showing him some videos, too, and I think I need to print out the rudiments of the game for him to read.

I was a bit stressed at the sidelines. It was so hard to keep the two tornadoes at bay. Lukas ended up with muddy shorts and shoes after playing on the wet soil. Judah almost tipped over the elevated area strapped to the stroller because he couldn’t wait for us to take him off it.

Much as I waited so long for the moment to be soccer mom, hubby and I agreed that the best arrangement would be for me and the two little boys to stay home and have Jay take Pablo to his practices on Thursdays and Saturdays.

We need to let go of Tuesdays until I muster up the courage to drive our beat-up Kia (goodluck on that!).

Anyway, I think it’s a good opportunity for Jay and Pablo to bond. I’ll be content looking at pictures and listening to their stories when they get back.

I know that God is teaching my son new things in this new season in his life, and he’s teaching us new things as well (or maybe this is God’s way of teaching me to be brave enough to drive, haha! ) , thus, we need to trust that the timing and our situation is perfect.

I hope my son would also like sports. Any sports will do talaga although his father wants basketball hihi. Its nice that Pablo is loving soccer Im sure it’ll improve not only his physical well being but his character as well.:)

  that’s right…there’s a lot to learn talaga in sports like discipline, team work, kindness, boldness…as well as physical condition which is something we’re also counting on. Pablo is a bit short for his age and not very strong….we would like for him to get a bit more physical exercise.:)

Aww I hope that you also get to watch your kiddo play. It took us a while before Little MrC finally decided on a sport, and he picked football too. Happy to say, we’re on our second round of soccer camp now, and the physical activity has benefited him immensely! It also helps that it gets him out of the house and away from gadgets and TV.

  I hope that Pablo does show improvement physically from soccer, we’re after that too, considering he’s been somewhat skinny and less active than other kids his age.

My son is just a year old so I’m not sure what exactly he wants. Haha! I have the same dilemma though. Our setup now is that I bring my girl to school and my son and I wait for her there until she finishes her 2-hour class. Yun lang, my boy gets so muddy while we wait! As much as I’d like to be the mom who’s at the waiting area even before the preschoolers arrive, I might need to turn over that task to the hubby.

I wanted my son to join soccer too! Maybe when he’s a bit older. For now, we’ll stick with playing at the playground

It’s so great that he’s very interested in soccer, or sports in general! Most kids nowadays would rather be at home and play video games. Support lang ng support for outdoor activities! :D

  Oh yes! This boy of mine actually has THAT tendency because he’s extremely interested in programming, animation and robotics and he doesn’t like playing outside much. Soccer and swimming are a few of the activities that help us pry him away from devices.

  Thanks Peachy! I sure hope so. Coaches did say he had a lot of potential when he joined some trial runs when he was four and five and his coach now says that for a beginner, he’s doing well considering he can already run and play the game with the more experienced ones on his first week. :)

  Oh lucky you! We had basketball (then folk dancing, badminton and swimming). I loved swimming but I would’ve enjoyed soccer. :))

Congrats to Pablo! I’m sure he’ll get the hang of it after a while. :) You’re right. It will make for a great bonding activity with his dad. This makes me wonder if Ziggy will like sports when he gets older. Right now, he’s happy already playing with his toys, dancing, singing and the occasional visit to the park or play area. We’ll see I guess.

My son is the exact opposite. They had soccer for PE when he was grade 1 and all his classmates joined the soccer team which had weekly practice except him! He had no interest at all. LOL
It’s good to hear that your son now gets to join a sport that he is really passionate about.
