Meet May Palacpac, Artist

Hi there! Let me reintroduce myself. My name is May and I am the Storyteller in this blog.

I once went by Fully Housewifed, and enjoyed years of blogging about family and homeschooling; but the new year has brought in a new season, so while I am still the radical unschooling mum you know, I’ve also embraced my season as a Visual Artist.

I have always loved drawing and the arts as a child, but I grew up in an environment where the arts was considered as merely a hobby, but not a profession, so I took the route that I figured out much more easily – the performing arts.

I’ve dabbled in professional musical theater, recording, and singing in metro bars and hotel lounges. I met my husband in the early 2000s, when our former manager merged our bands to form a new group. We did music together for many years until we decided that we liked being a family, and to be able to do that, the best thing to do was to hang our instruments and call it a good run.

I revived my writing career and went on a freelance mode for 15 years. I have published works in several publications, such as Smart Parenting, Working Mom, Spiff, and have done SEO writing for marketing companies such as Spiralytics in Manila, Choc Chip Digital and Dangerously fit Elite in Australia.

Would you be surprised if I told you that I’ve also written a handful of books as a ghost writer? Well, I did. It wasn’t particularly fun when you don’t get credit for your hard work and ideas, but it helped pay the bills when they were due.

My husband, Jay, serves as Music Director and Producer for the Kids Ministry in our church. Basically, it means he creates music, produces them, does multi-media work, take care of logistics and all that stuff for the Kids and Pre-teens services, and our global community through Kids Church Online. He was a Music major in College so he is doing what he does best!

We still do music together, just not in the same capacity as our roads have diverged in that particular.

I still do the freelance thing. My job allows me to play mom to my three kids, now in their teens.

My two older sons, Pablo and Lukas, are both in STEPS Dance Studio, the top Dance Career school in Manila, training primarily in ballet, while our youngest teen has the potential for a career in Graphic Illustration, Music Production, and the Culinary Arts. He’s not quite decided yet, but his skills seem to point towards that direction.

We are what you would categorize a
n Unschooling family and have been around the homeschooling sphere for a long time – 17 years, give or take.

I was active in the local homeschooling community, helping out families who are just starting out or are looking for less traditional ways to educate their children in the best possible ways in today’s economy. I still keep those blogs here under the “Homeschooling” category for those that need it.

I also still keep the podcast on homeschooling and alternative education up which you can listen to on Spotify here: The Homeschool Podcast

Or watch on YouTube here: The Homeschool Podcast on YT

Nowadays, I am more active in the Visual Arts Community and have been participating in group exhibits in the metro.

If you haven’t seen my schedule of art exhibits yet, here you go:
